 Basics of Living Indicators

Human needs are hierarchical with food, water, air, and income providing the basics of living (A. Maslow, 1986). At the community level, these measures are correlated with population health – the fewer basics of living in a defined population, the more disease, lower quality of life, or lack of health care. Basics of living can be represented using nine county-level indicators (Shao S, Su S-C, and Kanarek N, ARQOL 2006). This Basics of Living profile provides county demographics, BOL index, the nine BOL determinants and related health indicators.
